Food Distribution '21

As we approach the end of our food distribution program for 2021, we want to make sure that we extend a heart-felt thank you to all the volunteers that helped deliver fresh, healthy foods to families in need, every other week for nearly 2 years. While addressing food insecurity was not always a priority objective for the organization, we are known for our responsiveness and for aligning programs and services with expressed needs of our clients. The dire needs of families over the last two years was not something we could overlook. As we’ve done for over 41 years, we pivoted, and responded to their requests for support.

In being so present with this intervention, we also learned that the need for food support, for families and particularly for seniors, had been present for some time. Clients were just reticent to admit that need. We are so grateful to learn of the food insecurity some of our residents and neighbors experienced and even more pleased to find the resources to address the issue on site, which is essential since so many families and seniors do not have transportation or mobility to seek food elsewhere.

It has been a pleasure to work with numerous board members and a full cohort of volunteers from FirstBank, coordinated by board chair, Kelly Kaminskas. Many, many thanks to all of them!

We have been the recipient of three grants from the Colorado Blueprint to End Hunger, private donors and a few foundations, which have supported our food distributions at Hidden Brook and The Gardens all year.

With the generosity of We Don’t Waste, donors, foundations, nonprofits and volunteers, we have given away close to 27,000 meals since we started. This is a program we aim to continue into 2022. Please let us know if you would like to support the program in some way!
