Building Community Check-Ins

The Coronavirus pandemic and resulting shutdowns, lockdowns and layoffs created major confusion and dismay everywhere, but especially in communities with limited resources and little experience dealing with government bureaucracies. To help our residents and neighbors learn about the virus, the government’s response, and the resources available to help them get through this period, Hope Communities shared a series of 50 “Building Community Check-in” videos on Facebook Live From March 30 to September 22, 2020.

In  addition to supporting viewers’ physical and mental health, these programs were designed to maintain and promote connections in our communities and surrounding neighborhoods as we work together to get through difficult times.

Though the regularly scheduled series has ended, all 50 videos have been archived on YouTube for viewing at any time—just click on the program name below to view them. We are developing and look forward to releasing new videos in a more instructional, “how-to” format as needs arise.

What Goes Around Comes Around: the importance of building up individuals to strengthen communityIn addition to updates about the pandemic and community resources, this show will include an introduction of Hope’s exceptional staff with listing of the ways they can help – followed by an extraordinary concert by musical talent from across the ocean. Joanna Hyde (originally from Park Hill, not too far from Hope Communities’ site) and her husband Tadhg O’Meachair have created a mini-concert just for Hope’s Facebook show today – from their home in West Cork, Ireland. Joanna said that growing up close to Hope’s Park Hill site, the Gardens, she understands the value Hope brings to individuals and community through housing, educational programs and support services. She knows that these things made a big difference in the community she grew up in and wanted to give back for all Hope has contributed to Denver over the years. These two musicians are absolutely phenomenal. They are renowned for their talent, which leads them to play their traditional Irish music all over the world. We are delighted they have been so generous in providing this concert for us, so we can help to brighten your day.
