#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity launched as an effort to create a wave of generosity throughout the world.

On this special day, we want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to our remarkable community. Our friends and neighbors have supported Hope Communities by donating

much-needed household and hygiene items for our clients, volunteered to pick up, assemble and distribute food to residents, and made monetary donations – all of which allows us to ensure the safety and well-being of some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Below are a few of the ways in which Hope Communities has mobilized over the last several weeks due to the impact of COVID-19:

  • When our families lost all income virtually overnight, food security became the most pressing and immediate need. Hope immediately initiated a food distribution system, acquiring, organizing, packing and delivering nutritious items and pantry staples to all properties, ensuring no one would go hungry.
  • We made personal phone calls to every single household – reaching out to check in, gauge the health and well-being of our residents and provide necessary resources to those in need.
  • Hope put a moratorium on evictions, late fees and rent increases, giving our residents the assurance they would remain safe and stably housed through income loss related to the pandemic.
  • Our dedicated team continued to provide resource navigation and direct service to clients to assist with complex application systems related to unemployment claims, rent and utility assistance, housing assistance (for non-residents) and food resources.
  • Our program staff and navigators provided resources and technology integration support to families with limited computer skills or no access to the internet as children transitioned to online learning.
  • Our property and programs teams increased our immigrant and refugee communication efforts to ensure information regarding the pandemic, health precautions and stay-at-home order information was adequately and accurately communicated.

The need for these services continues to grow. We know that vulnerable and marginalized communities will be the hardest hit by both the virus and the economic hardship it brings, and it will take low-income populations much longer to recover. Hope is committed to seeing our clients through all immediate needs and will be with them throughout the aftermath of this pandemic.

On this global day of unity, we hope you will support our efforts, as you are able. We know there are challenging times ahead, but through the power of generosity, we can build deeper connections, stronger communities and heal together.
